Gwiazdy Katowice — Historical European Martial Arts is an association bringing together enthusiasts and athletes! We are an unincorporated association dedicated to promoting European martial arts with historical edged weapons through sport, social activism, and culture. We conduct historical fencing training in the categories of sabre, sword and buckler, and soon rapier. This is a young and dynamically developing discipline, so we welcome anyone from 16 years of age!
Historical European Martial Arts combine historical accuracy with the safety of the practitioners. Sparring takes place using simulators that faithfully replicate fighting with real weapons. They differ from live blades only in having blunt edges and reinforced tips to ensure safety during combat. In our club, the dominant weapons are the sabre and the sword with buckler. The sabre is a very dynamic weapon, requiring both speed and a great deal of thoughtful decision-making, while the sword and buckler engages the entire body and allows for highly spectacular combat. These two weapons are the core of our training.
